The Hobbit is Magic's first Standard-legal Tolkien set, releasing on 2026-08-14. It introduces three new mechanics — Storied, Recruit, and hone counters — alongside the returning Amass (now building Goblin armies) and Adventure. No Commander preconstructed decks ship with the set, but standout legendaries drive EDH interest: Thranduil for an Elf tribal shell, Gandalf, Party Guest for Wizards and legends-matter spellslinger builds, Thorin, Mountain-king for Equipment Voltron, and the mythic dragon Smaug as the set's headline card.
